Spectralon® Reflectance Standards

Spectralon® Diffuse Reflectance Standards can offer the highest diffuse reflectance values of any known substance. These durable, chemically inert standards can have typical reflectance values ranging from 2% to 99% and are spectrally flat over the UV-Vis-NIR

Ultraviolet-Visible-Near Infrared
spectrum. All Spectralon materials are optically flat to ± 4% over the range of 250 - 2500nm and ± 1% over the photopic region of the spectrum.

Spectralon Diffuse Reflectance Standards are highly Lambertian, with Spectralon SRM-99 Reflectance Material being the most Lambertian reflector available for use over the wavelength range from 250 - 2500nm.

They are available individually and in sets, consisting of a diffuse white standard and a selection of diffuse grey standards. Each standard is supplied with complete diffuse reflectance data from 250 - 2500, every 50nm. All standards are housed in a durable delrin holder with a protective cover.

Diffuse Reflectance Coatings

Spectraflect® Coating is a proprietary, high-reflectance coating that is useful over a wide wavelength range. It is generally used as a reflectance coating in the UV-Vis-NIR

Ultraviolet-Visible-Near Infrared
region and is most effective over the wavelength range from 300 to 2400nm. This inexpensive, non-toxic material is near-Lambertian in character and easily applied by spray to any substrate. Spray coating allows for faster prototyping and ensures that the final design is not limited by the application process.

The reflectance of Spectraflect, as with all reflectance coatings, is dependent on the thickness of the coating. At thicknesses above 0.5mm (0.02"), the coating is opaque with reflectance of >99% over the wavelength range from 400 to 1100nm. Spectraflect is thermally stable to approximately 100°C.

Ultraviolet-Visible-Near Infrared
region of the spectrum and can be machined into a wide variety of shapes for the construction of optical components. Spectralon exhibits relatively flat spectral distribution over most of the UV-Vis-NIR from 250 to 2000nm. These spectral properties exceed those of most paints, which show strong absorbencies in the UV

due to absorbencies by TiO2 or similar pigments.

The hydrophobic nature of Spectralon also leads to exclusion of water overtone bands in the NIR

Near Infrared
, which may occur in barium-sulphate-based materials. The open structure of Spectralon causes both reflectance and transmittance, but not absorbance of light. The material has hardness roughly equal to that of high-density polyethylene and is thermally stable to >400°C.

Because of the diffuse reflectance properties of Spectralon, these targets maintain a constant contrast over a wide range of lighting conditions.

Spectralon Targets are available in plates up to 610mm (24") square and are available in white or grey material and are mounted in a rugged anodised aluminium frame. Calibration data from 250 to 2500nm, every 50nm is supplied with the targets. Calibration data is traceable to the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). All targets are thermally and chemically stable and easily cleaned. Targets larger than 610mm (24") squared can be constructed and calibrated. Custom targets of various reflectance values are also available up to 3m squared.

Spectralon Contrast Targets are perfect for the calibration of video cameras, densitometers, the contrast transfer of propagation media and the testing of imaging systems in field conditions.

These chemically inert targets are durable and washable. They consist of a diffuse white (99% reflectance) and a diffuse dark grey (10% reflectance) panel mounted side-by-side in an anodised aluminium frame.

Luminance/Radiance Uniform Light Sources

Luminance/Radiance Uniform Light Source Systems are integrating sphere uniform light sources designed to accommodate a wide range of applications from night vision to remote sensing. Integrating spheres provide a near perfectly uniform source of radiance or irradiance for testing and calibrating telescopes, imaging detectors, photometers, radiometers and many electronic imaging devices.

Luminance/Radiance Systems are available in sphere sizes ranging from 100mm (4") to 2000mm (76"), each optimally designed with an output port diameter to provide luminance uniformity of ±1%. All systems are equipped with a light source assembly, variable attenuator, power supplies, detectors and operating software. The standard variable attenuator provided with all systems is a manually driven micrometre unit that allows for control of input light levels while keeping the spectral shape fixed. An automated variable attenuator and controller unit is available when more precise control of the light output level is required.

These General Purpose Spheres provide greater configuration flexibility than ever before. Clients can choose spheres by selecting size, ports and reflectance material. The addition of a wide range of interchangeable accessories including light sources, assemblies, port reducers and more allows for an endless number of application solutions.

This flexibility allows customers to create a uniform source or light measurement system, or modify an existing system in a matter of minutes. A variety of system calibration options enable systems to be customised for application specific tasks.

Labsphere's sphere design features sturdy port frames, easy access mounting options and quick-change accessory options meeting a multitude of requirements. Deep Ultraviolet
Series Integrating Spheres are available in 50mm (2"), 100mm (4") and 150mm (6") diameter spheres with a choice of three or four ports. Each sphere assembly includes a baffle, SMA Adapter, TO5 Detector Adapter, and Port Plugs coated with a MgF-Al DUV coating.

Aluminium has a high intrinsic reflectance value in the UV

Ultraviolet
region above 100nm. The protective overcoat of magnesium fluoride helps protect the aluminium and optimises its reflectivity. The MgF-Al coating is quickly becoming an industry and national laboratory choice of coating for applications in the UV wavelength regions. The coating is efficient for applications covering the 100 to 400nm range and is more stable than PTFE
polytetrafluoroethylene

Laser Power Measurement Spheres

Independent of beam geometry and without the need for auxiliary optics, Laser Power Measurement Spheres are ideal for collecting the total radiant power emitted by highly divergent sources, such as laser diodes as well as a collimated laser beam. Accurate, repeatable measurements may be performed quickly and easily without painstaking positioning and alignment procedures. Integrating sphere measurements of laser power also eliminate polarisation effects often associated with filter attenuation techniques.

The liquid-cooled Laser Power Measurement Spheres include three sizes of liquid cooled integrating spheres designed for performing power measurements of high power pulsed and continuous wave lasers. Coated with Infragold® High Reflectance Coating for measurements over the 700nm — 20µm wavelength range, the liquid-cooled design can handle a maximum power density of 2kw/cm2 (CW for 1 second exposure at 10.6µm) while greatly reducing the self-emission that would result from an un-cooled sphere.

Reflectance/Transmittance Sphere Assemblies constitute one of the most basic reflectance measurement products and can be used to measure the reflectance or transmittance of a wide variety of sample mediums. Offered in two standard designs, each sphere is available in one of two reflective coatings; Spectraflect®, a highly diffuse reflective coating effective over the 300 - 2400nm range and Infragold®, designed for use in the 0.7 - 20µm wavelength range.

The Reflectance/Transmittance Spheres feature five 25mm (1") diameter ports to accommodate sample and reference beams necessary for a 9° double beam geometry, as well as port plugs required for 9° single beam geometry. A 13mm (0.5") detector port is located at the top of the sphere. A specular light trap is included for specular subtraction methods.

. Total luminous flux is the most important parameter for non-directional characterisation of an LED for luminous efficacy performance.

Organic Light Emitting Diode
s and LEDs is using an integrating sphere spectrometer. The integrating sphere spectrometer is calibrated with a standard of total spectral flux employing the comparison method made simple with application-based software, a calibrated standard lamp of known output, commonly referred to as the comparison method. The results of this comparison determine the light output test lamp.

For directional applications, LED intensity and spatial distribution are the most important parameters. For intensity measurements, a precision entrance port into a near cosine sphere detector is configured for Condition A or B measurements where the device is located 316mm or 100m respectively away from the entrance port of the sphere intensity head. The head is coupled with a spectrometer with application-based software calibrated for spectral intensity responsivity.

s range in size from 100mm (4") to 1930mm (76") in diameter, offer a highly reflective, durable Spectralon® or Spectraflect® interior, and can accommodate lamp sizes from sub-miniature incandescent to 1320mm (52") fluorescent lamps.

Spectralon® integrating sphere incorporates a re-optimised xenon flash lamp to provide exceptional diffuse illumination of the product saple and minimise data integration time. New high performance diode array spectrometers coupled with new, advanced fibre optics are optimised at the system level for low stray light with superior wavelength stability and flash-to-flash repeatability.
