LumaSMART HV Transformer Winding Hot Spot Monitoring

The most critical parameter to monitor on a transformer is the temperature. Transformer life is directly related to the life of the insulating paper inside. The life of the insulating paper is directly related to temperature it is exposed to. The highest temperature on the windings is the Winding Hot Spot (WHS), where the insulating paper is most likely to break down first. Conventional methods only simulate or calculate this temperature, but not directly measure it.

Based on the patented Fluoroptic measurement principle for its reliability, Dip-Tip Rugged probes are PFA Teflon-jacketed featuring five-layer protection in their fibre optic encapsulation, including Kevlar for crush protection. They are specially designed to withstand harsh environments without deteriorating physically or affecting the accuracy of the temperature measurement. Dip-Tip Rugged probes are calibration-free and remain accurate for the life of the transformer.

The LUXTRON 812 is an industrial grade fibre optic temperature monitoring system designed with two measurement channels and an easy-to-read LED display. The tough metal enclosure of the 812 provides electromagnetic shielding in the harshest environments. Its tamper-proof design allows only authorised personnel the ability to change calibration or monitoring parameters. The LUXTRON 812 can be incorporated into an industrial control scheme through the RS-232 or analogue outputs. Measurement Range -100 to 330°C, probe dependent. Accuracy (Calibrated) ±0.5 within 50°C of calibration temperature, ±0.2°C within 20°C of calibration temperature and ±0.1°C @ calibration point.

The FOT Labkit is a versatile 4-channel fibre optic thermometer for general research applications in laboratory settings. It includes a Fluoroptic thermometer shielded in a metal enclosure, universal power supply, RS-232 cable, users manual and compact carrying case. Data is logged with any terminal program (such as Microsoft Windows Hyperterminal) or with the optional TrueTemp graphing and data capture PC software. The FOT Labkit interfaces with data acquisition devices through the analogue output (O-10VDC or 4-20mA) or the RS-232 digital port. Measurement Range -100 to 330°C. Accuracy (Calibrated) ±0.5°C within 50°C of calibration point.
